Production Blog Post #2

Seeing as I opened this blog up yesterday, I don’t have too much to add to my first post. Though, I have many things to show! So, let’s hop into it!

To start I have two videos to share, first is a very rough compilation of some thumbnails and rough storyboards that I jotted down in Toon Boom. I’ve been trying a few different ways to storyboard this time around as I think it’s important for me to focus more on it. Last semester, I did very basic animatics with little detail which made the pre-production very fast, but made me struggle towards the end of production. So, over the summer I both jotted down doodles on an image file and also did basic movements in toon boom to get my vision started.

The second clip is a mock-intro for my film. I’ve since changed my idea and plan to trim most of the beginning in favor of a zoom-in on an old TV. I want to do this to also get across a more 80’s slasher feel. The title screen and intro as a whole will hopefully feel like sitting down to watch an old movie back then. Though, I don’t want to cross too deep into the slasher themes as they grew to be quite goofy, for lack of a better term, and that is far from what I want in this particular film. In the future, I plan on exploring more comedy related stuff, perhaps with Kevin to serve some dark humor.

This intro was also me getting a feel for how I want some of the effects to work throughout the film. I’m a weird fan of the ‘random sliding bars that show text or small clips in them.’ What can I say? Diagonal transition slides and everything fascinate me and I feel like add to the vibe I’m going for.

Finally, I have the main characters' color palettes. I have their natural colors, two different contrasting styles and the shading. While the first and last are very obvious, the middle two are still on the chopping block. As stated in my previous post, I would really like to have some scenes of high contrast with more abstract visuals, though I’m conflicted on what colors I should use. For the film, I plan on only using a handful of colors for all of the backgrounds, not only to save on time, but to further establish the environment and to help the audience focus more on the characters.
